Today's Outfit - 04/30

Seeing my last few outfits I felt like I wore an uniform all week, just changing the colours.
How could I let this happen?
Tomorrow we have the day off, let’s see if I would achieve a very different style.

But they say it’s going to rain… Rrrrrrrrr

I’m starting to have fun making weird poses. But I must get a photo editing software, to do funny things with some pictures.
Any tips with an easy and cheap (free would be perfect) one?

Today's Outfit - 04/28

Rule # 57 – Never wear pink with red.

Why? It’s part of a monochromatic look.

I think next time I’ll break the rule!

I was tagged

Thanks to the cute Viviane from Mademoiselle Bariolée and the lovely and always thoughtful bronwyn from FashionAbility for tagging me.

Here are the rules:
1. Link the person who tagged you.
2. Mention the rules in your blog.
3. Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
4. Tag 6 following bloggers by linking them.
5. Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers' blogs letting them know they've been tagged.
And here it goes…

1. I “never” put my handbag on the floor.
2. I don’t wash clothes at Sundays or Holy holidays.
3. If I see some knifes and forks crossed on the table I always uncross them.
4. When I go for the first time to a house I always leave by the door I entered.
5. When I dish wash I don’t pull up my sleeves because I have this mania that I’ll not soaked them, but I end it with at least one wetted.
6. I always think that I can do multitasks, but at the middle I’ve to organize me.

Now the rules state that I should tag six other bloggers. I don’t know if you have already done this, if you have it feel free not to, if don’t you’re tagged!

I was also tagged by the brave Dazed & Confused from Saudi and the City to do the “6 Things You Should Do Before You Die".
Since I’ve already mentioned 8 things in this post I will continue with #9.
…………………………................................

9. Do something for the fun of it
10. Do something worthwhile everyday
11. Live my Dreams, not just Dream them
12. Do my shopping at Mango completely naked and pretend I don’t know what the problem is
13. Discuss sex very loudly in a restaurant
14. Have green hair when I’m cremated

And now comes the usual whining: who the heck should I tag???
Well, if you like it feel free to do it.

Today's Outfit - 04/25

This time the weekend begun earlier with the national holiday of “Freedom Day”.

I think I should have worn a red carnation on my lapel, but I haven’t one.

the red carnation revolution

On April 25, 1974 army officers caused the downfall of the 50 years old fascist dictatorship in Portugal. Portugal’s saw democracy restored by its ‘red carnation revolution.’
Every year on this day the whole of Portugal celebrates with a holiday to mark a proud era of freedom for the country, which started just 34 years ago.

A complete generation of Portuguese has passed into adulthood since the heady days of the 1974 Carnation Revolution. For this new generation of Portuguese, globalisation, European integration, and the information revolution are much more significant to their lives than corporatism, colonial wars and the Carnation Revolution can ever be. The gap that exists between the present generation’s real life experiences and the experiences of their parents and grandparents could not be wider. In all, the 1960s and 1970s are as remote to them as the 1930s and 1940s are to everyone. We can all recognise that the present is shaped by the past, but, with the passage of time, it is much more difficult to assert that events that occurred thirty four years ago have a greater influence than those that occurred five or even ten years ago.
The youngest generation isn’t quite aware of what was 25 of April 1974 and what was achieved then.

But are the ideals of the red carnation revolution done?
I finish with a sentence that I consider very important “If a nation wants to build its future must know its past”.

How versatile can be a LBD?
In one moment we can wear it in a cocktail, at the other down it with some piece to go to work.

Today I’m almost dressed by Zara. Well I think it’s free advertising…

I went today to "our" Mango store. I was amazed, now it has much more pieces of the collection. Well, but my shopping season is closed :(

"art"??????

This is one of those things you come across and just have to blink a couple times and ask, “is this real?”.
An "artist" by the name of Guillermo "Habacuc" Vargas Jimenez (habacuc being his stage name) was in the Bienarte 2007 (art exhibit) in Costa Rica.
There he displayed a very sick and starving stray dog that he had two children capture for him in a nearby barrio (village) for some money.
Once in possession of said dog he named "Natividad", (which means birth) he tied the dog up and held him there under a sign he made on the wall entitled "Eres Lo Que Lees", "You Are What You Read". The letters were made of kibbles.
The dog was held there, starving and staring longingly at the title. Hundreds of visitors to the art exhibit passed by, a few animal lovers asked for the dog to be released but Vargas refused. According some animal rights activists Natividad died of starvation.
Vargas won first prize for his display of art, which he says was to illustrate the real problem of stray dogs and to "sensitize" the people to their deaths.
He has now been asked to participate in the upcoming "Bienal Centroamericana Honduras 2008", "Bienarte 2008 in Central America Honduras" that will be held in November 2008.

While I do not believe in censorship, I do believe that a line must be drawn when it involves taking an unwilling model and using them against their wishes.
There is a petition to ban him from this event, which you can visit by clicking this link.

On the other end perhaps this was the reaction the artist is seeking. The inevitable backlash serves as a perfect marketing tool for the artist in question, generating the publicity and hype to the project.

Whatever the truth turns out to be, the issue of animal cruelty it is supposed to represent has been highlighted to the world and hopefully it can be addressed before the hype is long forgotten.

Today's Outfit - 04/22

I’m feeling that I’m being influenced by everything I read about fashion.
So, I think I’m rationalizing the rules.
Earlier when I pulled of something it was a matter of senses. I looked to the colours and instinctively I created the look.
Now I’m more concerned to create it in my mind following the rules.
When I’m preparing to dress I look to the clothes and I have some doubts, because, as I said before fashion must be creative. And creativity in this case lays on the senses not on the mind.
So I’m going to try to emphasize the creativity constructing better my personal style.

I don’t know what’s going on with the colours. Maybe it’s from the light, maybe it’s from the camera, I don’t know. But the colours don’t appear like they are in live.
My purple shoes still seem to be blue, and the carmine sweater seems violet, just to mention the most obvious.

surprise

I had a surprise gift today.
Off course from who it could be except from my husband…
It was a very nice surprise from the man I think is someone really special.
It’s a pink wrist watch with the bracelet made of pink and gray pearls.
It was ordered by my hubby, made especially for me by one of his co-workers, who makes this kind of jewellery.
If you would like to see more from her work, or even buy something you can check her blog and contact her.

The box was also made by her

(I had to dark the photo so you could see the watch better)

Thank you love.

Earth Day

April 22nd of this year marks a very important day, Earth Day!
Earth Day is especially important to those who love nature and want to see our environment improved and saved for future generations to enjoy.
This year is expected to be bigger than all other previous years. Cities all over the world are participating, people are coming together to call for change. Millions of people all over the world are rallying around a Call for Climate, which has become the global warming action theme.

I was preparing a post about Eco-fashion but I didn’t conclude it, but we can celebrate Earth Day everyday.

However I’m sad because nobody wants to celebrate my planet day. Surprised?
But you’ve seen my outfits, you know some of my ideas, I believe in the Man’s goodness, I trust in the others, I’m against the War, I like Nature and above all I want to help the others, so… I must be Martian, at least my husband thinks so.
Thus, when Mars Day will be celebrated I’ll be happy.

Today's Outfit - 04/21

Today I had that feeling when one looks at the closet full of clothes and says “I’ve nothing to wear!!!”
Have you ever had this feeling?

I don’t program my outfits in advance. I like to dress according to my mood and the weather. The weather was easier to overtake if I would see what meteorologists say about it (despite the island weather is complicated to forecast). But my mood… How can I know it in advance… never!

So I pick a piece and start to construct the look around it.
But when I feel like today I just jump to the plan B. My ever loved colour combo, which I think looks good on me.
Black with white and red.
Just added the blue necklace to spice it “et voilà”.

I copycat one of Nadine’s poses (sorry dear, it was just today, don’t be mad with me, please) because I think it’s flattering for full skirts, but the picture went blurred, nevertheless I like it, so I posted it.

My husband spent all night working in a project he had to present today. I was worried about him therefore I didn’t sleep much thus I’m tired and on the edge.

2008 spring legwear

Every time the weather starts to warm, in transition from winter to spring, but it’s not yet hot to be with nude legs, that I have mixed feelings and uncertainties about legwear.
Therefore this time I’ve been searching the internet to obtain information regarding it.

In my investigation I found that since December's British Vogue recommended transparent tights in their piece about dressing for the in-between season.

suite101.com has some articles with references to legwear in which they tell that the unspoken law of open-toe shoes has been that one should never wear opaque (or otherwise obvious) stockings with peep toe shoes but 2008 is putting a big red line through that rule.

"Tights and peep toes are the year's new It couple," declares the ShopBop website. Going totally against the grain, one of the biggest footwear fashion crazes is pairing opaque tights or textured stockings with open-toe shoes. That which was once a serious fashion faux pas is now all the rage!

In an interview for ElleCanada.com, Barbara Atkin, fashion director at Holt Renfrew, warns fashionistas against wearing sheer stockings with peep toe shoes. Instead, she advises wearing lace or fishnet stockings, an opaque black stocking, or a tight in a tone the same colour as the shoe.

Who What Wear daily states that sheer tights have officially returned since the runways of Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Karl Lagerfeld, and Derek Lam were a study in transparent hosiery, as designers sent out their models in see-through stockings in abundance.

Well, now it seems that ones major issue is not “if”..., but “which”. The assortment is endless.

What do you think about spring 2008 legwear trends? What would you wear?

Today's Outfit - 04/20

The day started a bit chilli, but yet very sunny. So I decided to give spring a chance and to wear one of my new pants, the cream ones, which I’m not sure if they are flare or wide leg. But I’m suspecting they are flare.

Mother wasn’t too good today, with some respiratory problems. Yet we manage to take a car trip by the city.

I don’t like me in these photos. Well, I think I’m starting a new struggle with my image, for those who might know me a little better it’s obvious that I think I’m fat. Yes, I’m in trouble…

Today's outfit - 04/19

Pattern mixing trend has been discuss by bloggers and one thing that is certain for everyone (I guess) is that it’s not an easy trend to pull off, it’s easy to fall into a mediocre result because there’s a thin line between the wonderful and the vulgar.

So despite I’m not afraid of colour mixing, I’m not so sure about pattern mixing.
I’ve seen great combos done by some bloggers (just not to speak of Dries van Noten).
I think this is a big challenge, and I would like to work it a bit provided not too extreme (I’m not a girl to turn over my face to a good challenge).
But I also think that if one is not sure better do “baby steps”. Thus I remembered a Mango’s set I have, bought some time ago that is a spaghetti handle top with stars pattern and a bolero with strips.
Well the mix was already done by the designer (I think when I bought it I was ahead of the trends *laugh*), so do you think that this will count?

Keeping talking about some bloggers…

The social scientist as I am, the stylish Psyche from Economy of Style is taking a brief hiatus while she resolves her computer crash, we all hope she will be back to blogging soon.

The always nice and cute Nadine from Strawberry Kitten now with her bilingual blog continues inspirational with her personal style.

Always with great information about celebrities style and fashion, the pretty Jen from • MAHALO FASHION doesn’t save efforts to keep us updated.

The sweet Imelda from Imelda has a huge shoe’s collection, that I actually envy (in a friendly sort way).

The light at the end of the tunnel”, the beautiful and creative Jill from Couture Salope is really “the shortcut and the longest route”… to paraphrase her.

If you want to “get all the latest juice on your favourite celebs” you must check what the well informed Fresh and Fab from :::::F&F::::Late... Celeb News Served Fresh and Fab posts.

Now my outfit, as in all my outfit's photos you can click to enlarge, maybe the patterns will be more visible.

Today's Outfit - 04/18

I feel like starting complaining about the weather, but I’m repeating myself everyday…
As I’ve said I would, I did the quiz “Which Sex and the City Vixen Are You?”, and also the one the nicely and Earth concerned .::JoSePhIne::. from All That I'm Living For has in her blog.
And imagine… with both I obtained the same answer: Charlotte!
They matched, I felt surprised, but I guess that that gives more consistences to the answer.
I wonder if I’m a sort of Charlotte’s character, my husband says he thinks so.
I was checking old posts in Easy Fashion in Paris when I saw these “Giant High Heeled shoe made of pans in Les Tuileries, Paris, Art-Work by Joanna Vascocelo”.
I love it.

Oh Paris, Paris… I wouldn’t dye without going there.
I’m so animated with the trip to Paris that “la belle, humoreuse et spéciale” La Belette Rouge is going to do. I will look forward for her trip’s posts.
A blogging friend, the lovely Grayburn from GRAYBURN went to a Cosmetics Conference, so she will have great information like she always has.

Also a great friends in Internet, the wonderful Izar from Binary Star has enormous information about “Everyday Minerals”.

With an organizational approach of closet’s space, my dear Internet friend, the fantastic Enc from observationmode has a great Pool in which we can vote and tell our closet’s “state”.
I was tagged by the brave Dazed & Confused from Saudi and the City to do a meme, I’ll do it as soon as I can.

The always gracious bronwyn from FashionAbility “has gone fishing”, but we will miss her posts and we are waiting for her.
The beautiful and funny DraMandarina from * Drama Girl * has been sick, I missed her, not just because she makes me laugh, but now I’m glad she’s better.
My great friend, the young, inquisitive and pretty olimpiA from a blog of my own is struggling with her university duties, and I miss her.

I could go on with other great bloggers that I think make the bloggosphere better, but I must put my outfit photo or the post title will be gibberish.
Weekend is here! Great. Let’s see if this time I can do half of the things I want. I would be satisfied if I’ll get to do half. *laugh*
I hope you enjoy your weekend, have fun…. I’ll be back.

Małgorzata Markiewicz

Lately a friend of mine who have an university degree in History of Art, T, introduced me Małgorzata Markiewicz.
Małgorzata Markiewicz is an artist who lives and works in Krakow, Poland.
One thing that made me to be interested in her work was the fact that fabric, textiles and clothes are among the materials commonly used by Markiewicz.
Also Markiewicz's works refer to spheres of femininity: to sexual identity, social position, daily bustle of household work.
In her work, Markiewicz employs various media: ready-mades, photographs, happenings and video films.
Used clothes still carry some of the previous owner’s experience and mystery. Incorporated in a work, the clothes re-animate the essence of the previous owner. Clothes are often placed in contrast with other objects.
Cloth as clothes is usually defined by contact with the body, the relationship between cloth and objects is developed to include real people and refer to the unbreakable, elaborate chain in which people live. In placing cloth in other spaces and manipulations, the artist creates new relationships and results.
Markiewicz weaves the inherent tensions in seemingly unambiguous objects or activities to create complex messages. The objects now problematized in an art context, have been transformed. Without compromise, the viewer encounters embarrassing, disturbing images and situations, which leave a disturbing impression beyond the moment of viewing the artwork.
Since the meaning of the work is often covert, the viewer is compelled to wrestle with possible interpretations.
SMUGGLED WHISPER 2008 includes clothes with some notes from people who might have done it, like “Hi, I have made it for you. Do you think it is nice? (name)” .

Here are some pictures of Małgorzata Markiewicz work:

Today's Outfit - 04/16

Hi everyone, I hope everything is ok with you all.

We had a sunny day, today, not warm but sunny. Thanks God!
This weather is making me nervous…

Today I wore my animal pattern blouse, now seeing the picture I wonder if I should have tucked it in the pants, or if it would look very formal.

So, do you know “Which Sex and the City Vixen Are You?”
I don’t, but I will do the quiz, and just for fun why don’t you do it also?

Today's outfit - 04/13

No my dear Readers, I wasn’t able to do what I planned in this weekend…
But I don’t face it as a failure, there will be more days and weekends. And I’m sure that the sun will shine tomorrow.

Today, my hubby and I, we went on a date. It was movies and dinner out.
What movie we saw? Atonement!!
Yes olimpiA I finally got it.
We had to go to the other city of the island, but I couldn’t miss this opportunity. Almost everyone out there has seen it, but you know some things get here at the island slowly.
“They have to cross the sea” *big laugh*
After we went to dinner, we laugh and it was great.

So tomorrow another working week begins… I wish you all the best.

Today's Outfit - 04/11

The weekend is already to come. How good. But it means that in a way the week flew, and I didn’t do as much as I wanted.

I think my “indoors” outfit is a bit boring, but I woke up with a lack of inspiration.
I want warmer weather!!

Well, despite the weather, according to the news, will get worse tomorrow night, I really hope I would be able to structure my life. I want to read, to listen to some music, to do this sort of things I like and I haven’t been able to do. Such as finish the book I started on vacations…

So I wish you all a very nice and joyfully weekend. Take care.

Today's outift - 04/10

The weather is still cold but less rainy. I’m sick of wearing my turtlenecks; I want to wear my blouses!!! But I’m a much susceptible girl to cold, I’m always complaining at the office with the cold temperature we have there.

I’m very glad because all readers that made comments in my late post asking what are you doing to help Earth, were aware that something must be done, and each one is doing the best you can. Thank you very much. Our Earth will furthermore thank us.

I want to thank you as well for your kind and positive words in my yesterday’s post.
I’m so happy I still am around here, sometimes laughing, sometimes crying, being sad, annoying you, but most important living. Because all that is part of life.

Today's outfit - 04/09

In a cold rainy day simple clothes to get comfort and warmness, with just a trendy detail – pearls.

Today is a very important day for me. It’s the anniversary of one of my turning points.

Just knowing that Spirituality’s good can come from life's bad is one of the most liberating concepts in the entire Universe.
After that I learned that Spirituality didn't require me to strictly follow the rules of a particular "religion" acting out all sorts of rituals and traditional religious rites of passage... sure those things are wonderful, when they have meaning to the individual acting them out... but what Spirituality really wanted from me was a "Relationship"... wanted ME, what was in MY heart! Wanted to change me from the inside out, create within me the ability to grow into a better person…

Through I’m writing this, outside there’s a big storm like I think we didn’t have any at the middle of winter.
Meteorologists say that at least by Friday we wouldn’t have better weather.
It’s raining a lot, it’s so cold and they say that the speed of the wind can reach 120 km/h.
Weather is like “crazy” and part because of “us” and what “we” are doing to our mother Earth.
So what do you think about that? What do you think you’re doing in fact to help Earth?

I’m posting again my outfits. I wish I could be wearing and showing my spring clothes, but we still have a crazy weather… well it’s time to make "the days of the four seasons" as the islanders picturesquely say.

Don’t know why but my purple shoes still seem to be blue in photos. Maybe it’s a purple shade with more blue than red, so the picture doesn’t show them well I think they’re electric purple.

I’m not yet used to be at the office after the vacations. I am not so far feeling focus at work…

updating…

Modelling… The presentation of DLD – Daniela Lopes Design that was programmed for yesterday didn’t occur. It was advanced for April 26, because this weekend take place another event, a Rally that mobilized many people, so the organization decided to reschedule it.
Therefore this gives me more possibilities to participate in the runway.
I already tried the dress but as I supposed it’s oversized.
Next week I’m going to meet Daniela so we can see what we are going to do.
But I’m so frighten when I think of walking facing that entire people!

The weather is terrible, it’s still cold, despite today the sun made its appearing. Yesterday rained, so I think I will not be able to get ride of my winter clothes so soon.
But I want to get start to wear my spring ones… That’s not fair.

Well, tomorrow I hope I will get going posting my outfits. Let’s hope the weather will help.

Today I take the courage to step to my weighing scale and imagine… My weight is still the same as before I went on vacations. I felt happier.

Take care all of you and have a good working week.

pop up windows update

My dear Readers,

According to my latest reports, it seems that I could manage to fix my blog, with the help of “webfixer” from Blogger Help Group, deleting a code that was in my footnote, and now my blog doesn’t pop up anything.
I hope that the problem is solved, but I would appreciate if this will happen again that you report it to me.
Thank you all for the support and the kind words you left me. I really appreciated it.

entering into the makeup's world…

As I’ve already told here I don’t wear make-up on a daily basis, only a bit of lipstick, I just make-up on special occasions.

Though I want to make it clear that is not because of that that I didn’t show my face yet. I have other reasons for privacy.

But continuing… despite the fact I don’t use make-up, I’ve been thinking that I should have some good basic products for whenever I would want to put some make-up I would be prepared.
Or even, who knows, maybe to start wearing just a really light one.

So, I looked at the store. I was full of confidence, hanging on my hand a printed paper with some advices that my blogging friend, the lovely Grayburn has given me.

A girl approached and we started talking about what I wanted and I was asking her many questions, consulting my notes.

I ended leaving the store with a bag full of stuff.

Let’s see what I’ve chosen.

For skin care, the girl said that my face skin was very dehydrated, as I already knew.
So I bought a Helena Rubinstein Hydro Urgency Intense Moisture Replenishing Balm.
I’m going to use this, in the morning and at night, on face and neck, for at least tree months and then I’ll see if the skin is better. Then I can consider doing anti-ageing.

Then we started to choose the basic products:
- a L’Oreal Long-Lasting Perfecting Foundation Honey
- a creamy L’Oreal concealer Porcelain
- an Artdeco Bronzing Powder Compact (two colours, beige and brown)
- since my skin has a bit of pink on the cheeks we decided not take a blush and use the dark colour of the powder (brown) as blush
- a Bourjois Sourcil Précision Eyebrow Pencil black (we tried the dark brown but it was light, I really have black hair)
- a L’Oreal ColorAppeal Trio Pro Hazel Eyes eyeshadows (brown, beige, light)
- a Bourjois Volume Glamour black mascara
- a Lancôme Lipcontour Chocolat
- a L’Oreal Lipstick Eva Toffee
- a L’Oreal Glam Shine Natural Glow Pearly Bronze
- a Chanel Nail Colour Rouge Noir

(Click the image to enlarge)

The girl has makeuped me with all this products and I liked the result, so I bought them.
I also bought a brush (but at Body Shop) to apply the powder.

After all they offered me a makeup purse, a Clarins trio blush (which I can wear as eyeshadows) and some samples of Chanel skin products and Helena Rubinstein lip sculptor.

Now I feel that I’m better prepared to do my makeup whenever I wish.

Well Grayburn and Izar if you were with me I’m sure I would buy better, but I hope that for a newbie I didn’t make many mistakes.
