rest in peace ex-father-in-law...

My ex-husband’s father passed away yesterday. He was 93, but his death was very sudden and unexpected.
Today was his funeral.
It was very difficult to deal with. Many mixed feelings came to me with some memories. I think no one is immune.
Despite we didn’t huddle for some years I was always asking my ex-husband, when we met, for him.
Also with the passing of my ex-father-in-law, it is bringing up memories of when my own dad passed on.
I fell sad, but tomorrow I will go to work and we’ll still continue on with our daily life and we all will survive.
Rest In Peace ex-Father-In-Law.

On another note, please don’t forget to vote on the pool about Seeker’s best Fall/2008 outfit on the side bar.
Thank you.

Best of….

When it comes to this time of the year, normally, we start to hear or see “The best … of the year was….”

So I decided to do something similar.

Thus I’m asking my blogging friends and dear readers to vote on the poll on the side bar for “What was Seeker’s best Fall/2008 outfit?”, from some I’ve chose and that you can see below or following the link.

If you think there was another one better, please say it in comments and you can vote on more than one.

The pool will be open until January 10th (my Birthday).

Please vote and have fun

TO - 12/28 - cold and windy… does the wind will take my fedora out…

Yves Saint Laurent
Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear

Long Blazer
Carrot-top trousers

A long blazer…. a slim line version of the peg-top trouser line, which was a popular 1980s fashion,… but I have these pieces in my wardrobe… a suit that was a London buy, some years ago…

You know my love for hats. Today I decided to use my fedora. But I must be honest… I didn’t wear it all the time, not the entire afternoon, but it was a step, I think. I’m being braver…

Now I’m looking for a beret. I’ve been looking for a beret for weeks…

TO - 12/27 - zip… zipper… zipping… z…

It was the year of 2003, in fact it was the Fall 2003 collection, which in fashion trend years, might as well have been forever ago. Exposed zippers, applied unexpectedly on pretty dresses, were sent down the runway (like Alber Elbaz for the house of Lanvin ) and started a craze.

So inspired by all those zippers I designed a skirt, bought a black pencil skirt and made it customize.

Now that we can see recent zipper looks from Versace, Narcisco Rodriguez, Yves Saint Laurent and Proenza Schouler, I think it’s time to feel “zipper” again, with my 2003 zippers skirt.

TO - 12/26 - today I went to work... and thought...

I really hope that everyone, who celebrates it, had a beautiful Christmas Eve and Day.
I had nice and calm ones, together with Hubby.
Fortunately Hubby’s mother is recovering very well. Thank you so much for asking about her.
Mother went to our home on Xmas Day to have lunch and dinner and spent all afternoon here. She was feeling so happy that made me feel so good because I could provide her a nice day.

Oh, today we went to work at the office. Half workers today, the other half January, 2nd, which means I’ll stay home that day.
But I wasn’t very fashion inspired, all the food and drink made me feel a bit lethargic.
Well I just can’t talk about that because if I start thinking of it I feel guilty and all those other thoughts you know come to my mind.

The city was so calm. All the stores were closed, and many customer services too.
No, here we have no “boxing day”.

Hubby, among other things, gave me a lovely ring made of black basalt (the stone the island is made of) and silver. It’s like a symbol for the islander in me.

So have Santa been good to you? And did you already say thanks to the elves who made your Xmas presents? Or Santa's helpers?

Xmas gifts from blogosphere...

I'm feeling very privileged for all the love I felt that came from my blogosphere corner.

The beautiful purple shirt that was sent with such warm feelings, the e-cards and e-mails, that lovely poem about “The Christmas Gift of Knowing You” and that “thank you” for somehow supporting the reconciliation between a daughter and a father, and also the sweet comments that were made in my blog, those were my Christmas gifts from all of you.
All them made me smile, feel warm and happy.

The story of Christ’s birth is a story of promise, hope, and a revolutionary love.
This is the stuff Christmas is made of, stuff that we keep during all year to make as move forward.

Thank you very much for all your Xmas gifts.

TO - 12/23 - not enough light to see it…

I’m so sorry for the poor quality of the pictures. They were taken on my way home after work and it was almost dark.
I even though twice if I should post them…

I still have mixed feelings about my style and the way I dress and the fact that I live in a small and conservative community.
Although I try to make my own style.

Tomorrow it will be Christmas Eve, so on what side of Santa’s list are you, have you been good or naughty? ;)

TO - 12/22 - maybe a tiny little bit Givenchy inspired…?

Have you noticed that your handwriting has deteriorated over the years??

Today I just saw some tips for improving your handwriting. I don’t know if this will work for me, but it is worth a shot. I have a feeling that I simply have to slow down. But here is what they say…

“You’ve decided you want to improve your handwriting and you’re probably hoping a fountain pen will do the trick — maybe a friend told you it would. Maybe you’re just adventurous and you want to try your hand at calligraphy (or you might, once your handwriting improves). Good for you!

A fountain pen may make your writing look a bit better, but if your writing looks as if frenzied chickens got loose on the page, chances are this won’t be enough. Most likely, you’ll need to retrain your arm and hand. ”

That sounds about right… but who has time??

The site does go into great detail on how to hold your pen and even some tips on your posture.

the holiday work party…

The time has come to mix together with your co-workers and small talk with your boss in a place far disconnected from the comfort of briefcases, pie charts and water coolers. The time has come for the holiday office party!

I think most of all the fashion sites and blogs have already talked about what to wear to a Holiday Party.

You were probably told that for a work holiday party, you should avoid garments that may be considered jeopardy. It is never a good idea to wear something revealing for a celebration hosted by your boss. You can do simple, in a sophisticated way.

The jewellery you choose can make the outfit, and of course, the shoes (and there are always options with shoes). Don’t be afraid to experiment with colour, texture and pattern. However, if you go bold with colour, keep your accessories in a supporting role.

A retro chic look with a twist can start with a simple pencil skirt and ruffled top. Added a cocktail ring and ruffled clutch for interest, and finished it off with some amazing bright heels! Who says classic has to be boring? Throw in some opaque black or patterned tights and you’re good to go.

The classic LBD (little black dress) gets dressier with patterned tights, bright high heels, and a splattering of sparkles. Our favourite fashion essential will never go out of style - well, as long as you keep on updating. Perfect for a formal occasion that you want to make a little more fun!

So with some of this guidance in mind here’s what I’ve chose for my holiday office party…

red shoes - local store
black tights - Calzedonia
black lace dress - Mango (detail)
red and black plaid coat with faux fur collar - Tally Weijl
black clutch - Parfois
culture pearls necklace - Hubby's gift

perfume - Paris from YSL

TO - 12/19 - on a day off, going for some Xmas shopping with a bare face…

It’s still raining and cold.
After some hours of pain and stress we, (Hubby and I), feel much tiered and emotionally deprived.
But as “they” say “the show must go on…”, so we thought that we should profit from my last day off from work before Christmas to go to do some Xmas shopping and buy a few gifts we need.
We haven’t done it all already, but hardly any are missing.

Today I didn’t use any spot of make-up. I didn’t feel like it, so I have a real nude face… (not that I use too much on a daily basis), so please don't be too hard with me...

I want to apologize to my blogging friends for being behind commenting in their blogs but I hope you’ll understand.

news update…

Updating the situation about my mother-in-law condition…

We had various developments.
First Hubby was prepared to go alone tomorrow to mainland (I would spend Christmas alone).
Then Hubby achieved to get that he would go tomorrow and then I would go on the evening of 23rd (I would spend Christmas at mainland with Hubby)
Afterwards Hubby’s sister told that she was taking their mother, since she isn’t too bad now, to her house and it wasn’t necessary for now that he/we should go.

So we are staying both at home spending Christmas and then on January he/we will go to see her and help with what will be necessary.

I understand that this was, at first, an emergency but it would be very painful to me to have to spend Christmas alone. I’ve had an experience some years ago, because of some life conditions, and I still feel the trauma of that. So all those feelings and thoughts came to my mind.

I’m happier now, but some damages were made, it’s going to be harder to get into Christmas spirit.

So, I want to THANK all of you that showed concern about me spending the Holidays alone and about my mother-in-law health.
I think it was all the good energy that was created by your thoughts and friendship that helped to resolve the situation.

I feel very privileged to have such lovely bloggers supporting me and being friends.

Thank you very much!!!

TO - 12/17 - on a dark, cold winter day...

Suddenly the weather changed. Today it rained a lot and it’s so much cold… and the day was so dark.
I had to go pick a coat that I have for several years that is sooooooo comfy and warm.

When I was storing some things today, I found some buttons. And I thought that there was a time when every home owned a box full of buttons and when kids were bored, they were handed the box. Those buttons could keep them occupied by the hour. Sadly, I don’t think I know anyone who owns a button box.

So, what do you do with all of your buttons? And if you manage to find a ton of them throughout the house, you just might be able to make yourself some interesting jewellery! There just might be a designer in you that is looking for a way out!

On another note I’m sooooooo worried!!! We just had a phone call from one of Hubby’s sisters, telling that his mother took a drop and might need him to go some days to mainland soon. If so he will spend Christmas there…

TO - 12/14 - lacing life…

I have already told you that since I saw Prada’s Fall 2008 Ready to Wear collection that I fall in love with lace.
Now I’m sold on lace; what can I say?
But not only Prada, many of catwalk shows for Fall / Winter featured lace.
Lace is everywhere - on dresses, skirts and TIGHTS! Lace tights can be so versatile.
Lace tights are perfect for any girl, the girl in the office, the girl downtown at the art show, the girl jet-setting here and there, and the girl at the flea markets. Lace tights are an alternating to the Fall season favourite - opaque tights.
I would like to know what do you think about this trend. Do you like it? Hate it? Don't care? Would you wear it?
