leaving to be sure of the return…

My dear readers and blogging friends, I’ve been on holidays for two weeks and this is my last one.
Those who know me for some time ago also know that my Summer holidays were always spent out of the Island, usually in my mother-in-law’s home and some escaping to “recharge batteries”.
This time we were not made-up to go out, since these first times of the year were very tough. My mother’s loss, my mother-in-law being very sick and we going to mainland to see her and then we had to go another time when she deceased.
After that we also decided to do some home renovation and remodelling, and with the crisis it’s not supposed to be the best time for travelling.
Also with mother-in-law disappearance we were stopped to have a place to stay for free.
But the Island has so much of a duality… when we contemplate the horizon line in search of answers it both constringes us as it set us free.
The islander has the need to leave the Island to have the certainty of the return…
That’s what is happening to me….
So for the good of my metal health from tomorrow until Friday I’ll be out of my Island to get the need of missing Home…

an easy way to step out of the ordinary… with a dressing gown…

In an age of increased efficiency and constant connectivity, things which are truly personal and indulgent sometimes become what we really need to stay sane. And this doesn’t mean they need be expensive - just important to us and a little bit special.

At the end of a long day, having left the trappings of the outside world in the coat closet, something new and special for home is a welcome addition: A dressing gown is the perfect indulgence once one’s daytime ensemble is dismantled, and an easy way to step out of the ordinary.
A dressing gown is a garment worn at home, once just required for a man, that both men and women wear while relaxing or before getting dressed. The man’s dressing gown is available in different sizes to suit different body types. Knee length and calf length are common lengths, they have full sleeves and some of them are even equipped with pockets. Cotton and polyester are some of the materials used to make them which usually come with a sash-like tie that has to be tied around the waist

Usually it refers to a robe worn in the morning time over ones pyjamas since there is nothing as comfortable to sleep in as a pair of pyjamas, warm, snugly, and soft.

Or in summer time why not just over ones boxer shorts which are a type of underwear that has gained popularity in recent years due to the comfort they offer to those who use them. These shorts have become a viable alternative to briefs, which have a tendency to be too tight for comfort.

You can find these pieces on-line in Derek Rose who provides a wide range of loungewear, boxer shorts and nightwear including luxury pyjamas.

Anyway a dressing gown allows one to both feel comfortable and look dashing while lounging around ones home.

tip of the day... preparing for a home improvement project...

You know I’ve been doing some home renovation and remodelling. Well there are a few things I’ve learned for myself that I think I should share with you…
Preparing for a home improvement project requires a great deal of effort, time, energy and money.
It is helpful that you straighten things up before going into any type of renovation.
Planning is the key to success. It is important to have the right ideas and the right people to work on your specifications.
Considering the services of home remodeling contractors might be a good idea.
However, before starting a remodeling project for your home, there are a few important details to attend to: make a sketch of your dream, gather information from others, come up with the right forecast, consider your budget, select a suitable workforce, have a written contract, obtain and comply with the necessary licenses and permits, and prepare for any possible problems.
Breakdown of equipment is likely to happen. There may even be a shortage of materials supply or several other unanticipated delays. These are just some of the possible problems that can occur. You need to prepare for circumstances such as these so you are not surprised, should they occur.
Be prepared for a number of unforeseen events...

tip of the day... beautify your kitchen...

The kitchen is one of the family’s favorite parts of the house.
It is because this is where moms usually prepare food for the family and is where the family gets to socialize.
Since the kitchen is the “core” of the house, every home owner should understand that it must look beautiful and be spacious enough for free movements. An unplanned kitchen usually results in remodeling.
Hiring a kitchen remodeler is the best way to get your dream kitchen.
Beautify your kitchen and increase its utility factor by remodeling it one of these layouts and designs: single-line or one-wall kitchen layout, galley or corridor style kitchen layout, L-shape kitchen layout, island or double-L kitchen layout, U-shape kitchen layout, modern or contemporary kitchen design, or traditional kitchen design.
Remodeling your kitchen needs careful planning. Always consider the functionality of the room first before the decorations.

tip of the day... hosting a cocktail party?

Hosting a cocktail party? Find out how you can save money by incorporating a drink menu.

The cocktail party is a well-known social gathering. Your drinks are the essential part of your party. You have a choice of preparing a full bar or a drink menu.

When you go for a full bar, your guests have the option of choosing their preferred drink. This is recommended when you have a wide selection of spirits available for mixing up to come up with various drinks.

A drink menu, on the contrary, can help you save your money because you it does not require a completely stocked bar. You can simply put together a list of drinks together with the ingredients.

You can create a drink menu by classifying similar types into the following groups: martinis, classic cocktails, tropical drink menu, frozen drinks, hot drinks, single spirit menu, and special concoctions.

Make sure to have several printed lists of your drink menu and place them in menu covers to ensure that they will not get wet during the party.

let’s face the sea, sailor…

Am I too matchy-matchy??? Yes I AM!!!!
But you know what…???
I don’t give it a dam!!!!

Normally, I am against anything too matchy-matchy. I tend to think of matchy-matchy (I hate that term btw) as being overly coordinated without any sense of personal style or taste.
But lately I’ve been thinking (since I've been avoiding some colours) where’s the line between matchy versus coordinated?
Many people think perfectly coordinated outfits are old-fashioned and stuffy. That it just looks too trying-too-hard and robot-esque.
Now I ask “why an all black outfit is cool and not too matchy???”
So I’ve been thinking that with the right colour combos and accessories matchy outfits can look fresh and modern. That the key is to coordinate only items in an outfit so that we don't overdo it
To balance it out with neutrals, then add a glam factor like gold bangles or an animal print purse, and we're good to go.
Well… I could go on and try to explain better my thoughts, but to tell you the truth it’s too dam humid and hot to make an effort to do that in a foreign language. (Sometimes it’s not easy for me… you know…)

But I'm curious to hear what you think of this matchy-matchy issue. Some insights…????

Oh I forgot to take a proper picture showing the shirt’s embellished shoulders, I think they really make it.

tip of the day... find needlework supplies...

Some may find it boring but for others needlework is a fun and very interesting hobby. It brings out your inner creativity and it can also benefit you in many ways.
To get you started, you need the necessary materials and guide books depending on what field you want to concentrate more on like quilting, cross-stitching, crocheting, and the likes. You can find these resources on many hobby shops, either on the Internet or in your area.
Stitch On Needlework Shop, Herrschners, and Hobby Lobby are examples of some online hobby shops for your needlework needs. You can also visit The Busy Needle, Countless Stitches, Needle Delights, Needles and Threads, Stitchers’ Express, Hobby Co. of San Francisco, and Wye Needlecraft.

it’s difficult to talk about fashion…

… so it seems Garance Doré took to her blog to opine about the difficulties of writing about fashion:
"You have no idea how hard it is to write about fashion! It’s hell! Not only are the terms just as seasonal as the clothes we don’t want anymore at the end of the summer, but new trends, materials, and cuts appear every three days and demand their rights: to be named! So you’d better not let an outdated word cross your lips, ok?"

I think you should take a look, it’s very interesting!!!

Also today I read this quote:
It’s taken me years to discover my look. I used to change it all the time, but that’s because I was trying to find out who I was. I’m thrilled that I finally found out.”

Lucky her…. I’m still searching…..

different ways to wear a scarf...

You know that I’m a scarves lover!!!
Sometimes I think that they become like a signature of mine (well not in summer… never the less…).
After seeing this post by Savvy Gal I remembered an e-mail I’ve received with different ways to wear a scarf.

So putting the fun back into scarves, let’s see those ways:

The Bag Charm
Inject colour and pattern into a handbag by lacing your scarf through the buckles or simply trying it to the strap.

The Classic
Traditionally tied around the neck and knotted to one side, this look injects colour into any outfit.

The Bow Tie
Add a sartorial twist to your look by styling your scarf into a flamboyant bow and making a statement in silk.

The Boho
Unleash the hippy child within by looping once around your neck and leaving the long ends of the scarf to flow.

The Shoulder Surfer
For a touch of old school glamour, pin your scarf to a blazer or winter coat using a vintage brooch.

The Neckerschief
The new trendsetter: diagonally fold a large square in two knotting the two ends behinf your neck and arranging the triangle shape at the front.

tip of the day… good oral health…

Since I remember I always had problems with my teeth. I think it’s something genetic.

But for good oral health, dentists want you to know all about: combining dental checkups with oral screenings, gum disease, dental cleaning, good brushing habit, bad breath elimination, the right nutrition, dental problem treatment, the root canal procedure, and regular toothbrush replacement.

Many people are apprehensive about going to the dentist for several reasons, with fear being a major factor.
However, you must overcome whatever causes your anxiety about visiting the dentist so you can have healthy oral hygiene.

It is the goal of every dentist to provide you with the right information on dental care for your general health. Whether he is a dentist located in my Island, or a dentist in Manhattan, every dentist has the same goal: to guide you through the proper ways to achieve good oral hygiene.

where is the red… the yellow… or the coral….???

Some of the colour trends for this summer season are bold, bright and incredibly vibrant. This vibrant brights will add a sense of excitement especially when they are set against the neutrals.
Therefore if you’re a long time follower or if you had a look to my last S/S season outfits, you probably saw that it was most likely that I would be wearing the “Tomato Puree”, the “Fusion Coral” or even the “Aurora”
So why not? Why haven’t I grabbed this opportunity to wear bright colours?
As many of you know I loss my beloved Mother not even six months ago. So I’m not wearing all black or black and gray anymore, but I feel I should continue to wear “soft” colours.
Thus the red, the yellow or the coral maybe will have its days next season…
Meantime I miss you Mom…

I don’t wear shorts…. but I wear bermudas….

No, no, no…. it’s not what you’re thinking about, I’m not going to say that is because of my age, but just because I have no legs to pull them off… lol

So as I’m on vacation (for 3 weeks and I’m on the first one) I now can wear casual, weekend, holidays’ outfits and denim is part of them.
It’s a huge trend this Spring and can be worn in so many ways. Oh, yes, denim is having its day.
All across the world, women are working, playing, living in their denim pieces and so am I… lol
I have these bermudas for such a long time, but they are really good for now.

Now that we’re on holidays I would like to take many pictures. But the first rule of photography techniques it’s the one we miss the most… Carry your camera all the time… of course, dah!!!

(I’ve published the photos slightly smaller not to overwhelm the smaller screens, what do you think?)
