Très Chic Style Bits #7 | pleather pants and pearls......

Once again time for our Link Up Party “Très Chic Style Bits”.
I want to publicly give thanks to two sweet and lovely ladies, Celia from Living My High Heeled Life and Jan from Fort Smith Stylista, for all the support they have been giving me about the Linky and for the encouragement to not give up.
At the bottom of this post is the button you must click to had your link.

We have been under such a bad weather, (photos above were taken during the week by some FB friends) with lots of wind and rain, that it was impossible to me to take some photos outdoors, all the week. And we haven’t any forecasts when it will stop. Storms in the Island can be tough.

Despite I started this blog with indoors pictures, I’m not very fond of them. The lights, the brightness, the shadows….. there are some factors that can ruin a good look with a bad photo.
But well, we must live with what we have….. if we can’t have it then let’s find another solution. So here I am with some indoors photos.

This is what I dressed (minus the rain coat) to go with Hubby in some kind of a date, dinner out, last night.
I tried to balance the pleather pants and booties’ rock vibes with the femininity of the pearls.
I always have been a hat’s lover and I have a few hats. However, living in a small conservative city, I usually felt weird when I wore a hat and most of the people stared at me. But lately I guess I feel more confident in wearing them.

As I’m wearing a hat maybe I’ll be in time to link to Style Crone's December Hat Attack, where Judith shows her amazing feathered hat.

Also since I’m wearing a few layers (does the inside cami also counts Anne? ;) ) I’m joining with Anne at Spy Girl for 52 Pickup which theme this week is Get Layered.

Keeping The Sun Off In Style

Pretty In Pastels (Versace 2010)Summer weather and the contrast of sun-drenched look of tan skin against soft, pastels will create the look you want to put together. This year’s hottest look is the long, sundress with the added bonus of a very high slit. You just need to apply your spray tan and your sunscreen to look good in this style. Still, if you’re attending an outdoor event in the outfit, there are some creature comfort considerations that can outweigh even the most fashion-oriented woman’s desire to look absolutely chic. First, how hot is it going to be there? If that sun is literally beating down on your head, you are not only going to be risking a bit of sunburn on your scalp, but you can also run the risk of heat related illnesses such as a sun-stroke.

Fortunately for oh so fashionable you, there is another hot trend for spring and summer that can keep you from being quite unfashionably ill at the outdoor gala… the hat.

Dresses and hats are a marriage made, if not in Heaven, then in the history books of women’s fashions. We all know that the proper Victorian woman of style would not have been caught dead out of doors without her hat. Neither should we. The fact is that, while some of those outdated styles were more for looks than practicality, hats perform as valuable a service today as they did then. They serve to block at least some of the sun’s harmful rays while shielding our scalp from being overcooked and rendered burnt. (Burnt scalp can itch and peel and this can be quite unattractive.) Even the most stylish of hats is not, of course, utopian. After all, we have all had a glimpse of what “hat-hair” can look like when you doff it for a moment in the shade. So, choose your hat not only to complement your look, but also pick it because you won’t mind wearing it for long periods of time.

Lightweight materials provide you with the best choice in warm weather hats. Whether you opt for a wide brimmed hat in straw or the all-so-American Cowboy hat in similar materials, both will pair well with more casual dresses and outfits. For those formal occasions such as outdoor receptions and cocktail parties, you should look to the milliner’s offerings that come festooned with modest (not loud) decorations from ribbons to the small bows to spruce up their chic, simple lines. Outdoors events that require a more athletic style of dress, such as a tennis match or a seat on the bleachers of a soccer game, cry out for some of the small, short brimmed baseball or field style caps/hats.

Pulling off a spring to summer look that not only makes you look hot, but also allows your head to remain cool, is as easy as investing a little time and money into shopping for the proper headgear. Shopping for a great look in hats, perhaps to complement a dress you already have? Then try the Internet. There are a quite a few web sites totally devote to hats for every occasion, and for all seasons. Dressing for summer and choosing the right hat have never been easier or more stylish.

TO – 11/01 - they call Alzheimer's "The Long Goodbye," and I can see why…

Mother is depressed… she has clear moments where she knows and is very sad and sorry for what is happening to her. And so AM I!!!!
When a loved one is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease we are given the facts, there is an intellectual understanding of these facts; but it is difficult to transfer that “in the head” understanding to the heart.
My Mother used to be such a social butterfly (unlike me), she loved to entertain and have fun with friends and family. She loved to cook and loved to watch everyone enjoying her cooking.
Now Mom definitely doesn't eat enough…
Oh Mother, you don’t know how fast I hold on to the remnants of what your mind has let go, misplaced, erased of yourself, as you walk to the end of the nursing hall.

I definitely love this top, the print, the colour, the fabric and the cut make it a stylish and well put together piece that can pull up some jeans or match a lady like bottom to a chic look.
It’s absolutely a piece to wear a lot, even in winter. Thank you so much, my Sexy Goddaughter!!!!

close to heaven...

I want to apologize to all my dear readers and blogging friends for my lack of posting and also for being so away of checking your blogs and comment. As well I want to thank all the expressions of concern and affection that many sent me.
Due to some circumstances I’ve been very busy with short time for blogging.

Sister Seeker and her husband arrived, safe and well and I got fantastic gifts which included this gorgeous pair of studded sandals and a fabulous top that I didn’t wear yet.

Meanwhile, we, Hubby and I, came to mainland and now we’re on holidays at a great Mountain SPA called H2otel (I love the name) on Serra da Estrela.

It’s interesting the duality of the islander in me that makes me miss the sea and my inner goat (I’m a Capricorn you know...) which feels the mountain in a special way.

We’re having a great time, being very well treated. Being the only vegetarian for now at the hotel, the chef made me a special menu for the entire week that was taken to my approval.

We’re spending most of our day time at the gym and the pool. The night is for dinner and to spend an enjoyable time on the bar, chatting.

So I think you’ll understand my absence...
However I’ll try to do some posts and go visit you all on the opportunities that I would have.

And I’ll be back soon with a great giveaway!!!! Don’t miss it!!!

For the time being, I leave you with some pictures of the day I arrived and last night outfits.

Take care and enjoy your time the most!!!

TO – 07/01 & 07/02 & 07/03 – changing hairstyle… and facing blogging guilt…

I’m facing blogging guilt as I’m so behind on checking your posts and blogging.

I know I’m always saying that, but I’ve been really busy, both on the office and at home. And I’m afraid things aren’t going to get better.

Next week I’m going to a professional course and then I’m taking some vacations. Sister Seeker and her husband will arrive July, 13. YEAH!!!!! And will be on my home until August, 12.
However I’ll go to mainland some days in between, to see Hubby’s family, also to have a rest and recharge energy (at a secret place…). ;o)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I’ve been growing hearing my mother say that “a good hairdo, a good pair of shoes and a good coat can make a perfect look”
I agree with mom, so I thought I needed something different for summer… a new hairstyle. After I thought it had to be done, so I went yesterday to my hairstylist.
Well I think mom would approved the cut, I’m not so sure about these highlights… lol
I’m not sure you can see it well with this picture, but the initial idea wasn’t such a bright red in highlights…
TO - 02/10 - don’t bother staring at me… I’m feeling brave with my Fedora…
“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
~~ Eleanor Roosevelt
We use phrases all the time like "that situation made me feel…" or "that person made me feel..." or "you make feel...", but those are inaccurate statements. We experience the situation or person's words, internalize them, process them, and then... we judge them and decide how we want to feel about them. Yes, this is often an unconscious process; but that doesn't make it less real.
As Eleanor Roosevelt points out in her quote, we decide to feel inferior or less than or upset or even in some cases, happy.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying that the situation or person or words are somehow OK. Maybe they are, maybe they're not - only you know. But how we interpret the experience is up to us.
We get to decide if we will ALLOW someone else or a situation to result in us feeling bad. We get to decide if we interpret an experience as demeaning - even if everyone else would agree with us.
You also get to decide if the person/situation is really all about them and what's going on with them and decide that you are still an amazing, wonderful, giving, important, loved person.
Next time you find yourself in a not-so-empowering situation, remember...
"No one can make you feel inferior without your consent."
To all my dear readers and blogging friends in Australia I hope that everything is fine with you and beloved ones.
May God help the ones who are suffering. Sending good vibrations to all.
